Art Pavilion Middelheim

21

The art pavilion for Middelheim has a twofold function. First of all it functions as a viewpoint over the park and second of all it functions as an exhibition corridor towards the depot for the old statues of Antwerp. To create a sense of curiosity I create a high concrete wall with just one opening, behind this opening there is a rising path towards the viewpoint. Under this path there is a corridor that leads to an exhibition case for the old statues. The depot is visible for the visitor. The positioning is made as if the statues rise from the ground. It is like the old statues form the ground or basis for the new statues above. Although it looks like a permanent exhibition method it is still possible for the employees to change or remove statues. The interior is made of luxurious wood as a contrast to the concrete wall. The material use makes the corridor a quiet place at the border of a wide open park.
